About the event
The Oracle Bone Script, dating back to around 1200BC in the Shang Dynasty, is considered the oldest form of Chinese writing. Over 400,000 fragments with inscriptions have been discovered, featuring approximately 4,000 individual characters. Scholars can interpret around 1,500 to 2,000 of these characters. The structure of Oracle Bone characters resembles modern Chinese characters, often combining multiple characters. This hints that the script predates the Shang Dynasty. Its abstract nature suggests it was developed even earlier.
Chinese Calligraphy is the art of writing Chinese characters, emphasizing both writing techniques and personal development. Through studying Oracle Bone Script, we'll explore the original meanings of basic Chinese characters. We'll also practice calligraphy writing, widely believed to harmonize body, mind, and spirit.
